IKEA’s Annoying Off White Picture Frame Mats

I am a die hard IKEA Ribba frame fan. Sure, they aren’t heirloom frames you’ll be passing down to your grandkids but if you’re working on a large framed arrangement and need simple, clean lines, you can’t beat the Ribba series in my book.  The SUPER annoying thing about the Ribba frames though are the mats.  The white frames are so nice and crisp and…well…white and the mats are 1000% a dingy yellow tone.  Whyyyyyy?  Why do you do this to us IKEA???

Thankfully I stumbled upon a solution and it’s so easy, it’s silly.  For whatever reason the front of the mat (the part with the bevel) is off white but the back of the mat is a crisp, pure white.  Bizarre, I know but look at how different (and better!!!) it looks in these prints I’m using in a client’s guest room.  The top photo is the mat the way it’s intended to be used and the bottom photo is the mat flipped to the backside on the left framed print.

Yes, you lose the bevel on the edge of the mat but if you don’t care about that (and I’d way rather lose a bevel than pay for a custom mat), turn those suckers around and continue on your merry inexpensive framing way.
